Forest School

Our forest school offers a full morning of exploring nature on our beautiful site. There are always activities for the children to do which often tie into the curriculum. Things like learning about garden birds, building nests and bird feeders. We often explore for bugs and build bug hotels. The children Learn to use new materials like elder wood and hazel and enjoy crafting by making elder necklaces, puppets and wood cookie decorations. They will learn to safely use tools like hand drills, mallets and saws. There is also plenty of opportunity to have some free play to allow them to develop their own risk play and imagination, whether it’s by building dens or digging for treasure.

In spring and summer there will be opportunities to visit the pond and learn about the ecosystem growing within.

The children are also taught the importance of fire safety and help to build a fire using natural materials. Here they can enjoy a hot chocolate and popcorn popped on an open fire.
